1986     Japanese Cultural Exchange: The Teacher-Anthropologist’s Role. AnthroNotes, 8(3): 7-13, Smithsonian Institution, National Museum of Natural History Department of Anthropology
The authors use examples of cultural exchange of both students and teachers to show that teachers who are trained in anthropology are equipped to handle these situations. Lanouette describes the language and culture training that she implemented with her high school students who traveled to Japan, which she argues was able to broaden perspectives and prevent incidences of offense. In the article is also the transcript of an interview Kaupp did with Bonny Cochran who discusses how her training in anthropology helped her adapt to the culture while she was teaching in Japan.
